Justin's Heart Journey
 |
Justin was born with lots of problems with the right side of his heart. Here's what he was born with:
- a nearly completely blocked pulmonary valve (near pulmonary atresia)
- a small tricuspid valve (tricuspid stenosis)
- a small (hypoplastic) and thickened (hyperplastic) right ventricle (Note:
This is the chamber that pumps blood to the lungs to get oxygen, so we need
it to work!)
- two "holes" from fetal circulation routes that were still open, called PDA and PFO for "patent (or open) ductus arteriosis" and "patent foramen ovale" (Note: The PDA was saving his life and as soon as it closed as it normally does after birth, he would not have a means of circulating blood to the lungs and would have died.)
