"Heart of a Child" CD

The song, “Heart of a Child,” was born in August 2003 after a difficult week of reading online posts from CHD support groups. That week alone, three babies “earned their wings,” and the emotions of what we each live with day in and day out as “heart parents” poured out. While we recognize that the children born with CHDs are the ones truly affected, we also know the heartache that we live with as parents who must watch their children endure surgeries, have setbacks, and achieve milestones that so many parents take for granted.

What is on the CD?

Track 1. In September 2003, Sharon Dunn recorded her demo version of “Heart of a Child” with the assistance of Jady Stevens as sound engineer. Despite some imperfections in performance, we feel that this recording captures the emotions of a mother who has experienced many of the feelings the song portrays. This song is included as Track 1 on the CD. Music, lyrics, vocals, and guitar by Sharon Dunn.

Track 2. Over the summer of 2004, Philip Parker put together a more professional recording of the song, which we also felt should be on the CD, so it is included as Track 2. Vocals, instruments, and sound engineering by Philip Parker.

How to Purchase “Heart of a Child”

Proceeds from the sale of CDs cover production expenses, but otherwise go 100% to our selected recipients ($3 per CD goes to CHD causes). We encourage you to donate more than the listed price for the CD in order to better support our cause; however, we did not want to make the cost too extreme for “heart families,” who are the target audience of this type of song.
